"There is a lot to be sad about now but I don't think my Dad ever wanted anyone to be sad. He wanted to celebrate all things greyhound.
His fur kids Tonya, Kyle & Jett were the world to him. After he had his open heart surgery and then was forced to retire, his life became centered around the dogs. His greatest joy was watching the new fosters blossom into pets. He truly enjoyed this more than most would ever realize. Even when he was on Hospice, the dogs were in his thoughts. Oakwood made arrangements for Jett (Dad's heart dog) to visit him. Dad was comatose but knew his "Jetter" was there. When Dad's hand was placed on Jett, he started giving Jett scritches. What a dog can do for a Man.
The Annual GEM Event (even when it was just our annual picnic and not the large venue it has become) was something he looked forward to more & more each year as his health declined. He knew that, if nothing else, he could take his lawn chair and camp out for the day with his dogs.
As planning
for the 2008 Event was getting into full swing, I knew I needed to do something
to honour my Dad's memory & his love for the greyhounds. I have donated
this greyhound statue/urn to GEM to raise funds for the greyhounds as a tribute
to him.
I want to believe that we leave traces of ourselves here, something that can't
be touched, something more than words and deeper than feelings and stronger
than memories. My Dad has left his love of this breed and his desire for all
of us to continue finding forever homes for these magnificent animals.
Donated in memory of my Dad, my friend." - Beth Barnhart

This memorial greyhound statue is cast in weather resistant resin that looks like stone, with a compartment to place your special pet's cremated remains. Each piece comes with their own brass dog tag that can be personalized with the pets name or a thought. This attaches to a collar that is carved in the stone; or one could hang their pets' own tags to remember them by. The beautiful Gentle
Spirits poem is inscribed on the column below the bust: Approx
15" Wide x 12" Deep x 34.5" High |
