Rural Rube was a legend. There were those who swear he was almost human. He posed to newsreels and cameras and at a dinner in his honor Rural Rube sat at the head of the table, a napkin tied around his neck. He even bowed to the delight of those present. Winner of the Flagler Futurity Stake, two inagurals and two derbies in 1939, setting four track records. Won the Flagler derby in 1940, 51-16-10 in 83 career starts. Died 1950.
