One of our very own GEM's has offered to make "neck warmers" for your greyhounds!!
Neck Warmers are knitted tubes (of various colors) that slide over the nose, eyes and ears and settle around the neck to give extra warmth when added to pajamas, a winter coat that does not have a snood, or any time when you think your babies might be getting a "draft."
Here is how it works ...
You send one 4 oz. skein of worsted weight yarn to her and she will make 1 Neck Warmer for your greyhound and 1 Neck Warmer for GEM to sell in the GEM Store.  All she asks is that you make a donation to GEM.  So, if you have 4 greyhounds you want Neck Warmers for, send 4 skeins of yarn (in ANY color).  You will get your 4 Neck Warmers and GEM will get 4 that we can sell in the GEM Store for $10 each.  It's a win-win situation!!  And, by the way, these Neck Warmers are GORGEOUS!!  If you want the address of where to send your yarn,
email GEM's webmaster.  Pictures coming soon!!

What can YOU do to help greyhounds?
There are many things you can do to help with the rescue and
adoption efforts for retired racing greyhounds!

Crafts:  Are you a "crafty" person?  We need help with making dog blankets, coats, belly bands and flat cats.  It is very expensive supplying these items in multiples.  If you sew, or know of someone who sews, GEM will be glad to reimburse the cost of the materials if you will donate your time and craftsmanship.  Contact GEM's Volunteer Coordinator to get started.

Drivers:  to pick up or transport the dogs to and from various locations including Meet 'n Greets, kennels or the farms.  Contact GEM's Volunteer Coordinator if you can help transport dogs.

Foster homes:  Helping greyhounds to become acclimated to our world is an important job.  GEM has limited space to house these dogs and there are many more at the farms and tracks that need to be picked up.  Foster homes play a vital role in the success of our placements and the well being of the dogs during their transition from a working dog to a pet.  If you have the desire to become a "foster home" for GEM, please visit our "Fostering" page to get started.

Fund raising:  GEM holds an Event every year in May that includes live & silent auctions, raffles, door prizes, etc.  GEM also sells items on Ebay to generate more income to help more greyhounds find their "forever" homes.  If you have items you would like to donate, please contact GEM's Donations Coordinator.

Monetary gifts:  There are numerous expenses (food, hauling, vetting, etc.) that are NOT covered by our adoption fees.  If you would like to donate to GEM, visit our "Donate to GEM" page.

Public relations:  We need people to help get the word out about retired racing greyhounds.  This could be placing flyers (we will provide) at animal related businesses, information distributed to schools, website links, news coverage, letters to the editors of local newspapers (especially if you are a greyhound adopter), or any other ways you can think of to educate the public about the need to place these wonderful pets into adoptive homes.  Contact GEM's Volunteer Coordinator if you can help in any way.

Newsletter:  GEM has it's own quarterly newsletter named "GreytTalk".  GreytTalk's editor is always looking for stories about your greyhounds, or other articles of interest, to be submitted for the newsletter.  Contact GreytTalks editor to submit pictures, stories or articles for the next publication.

Volunteers:  GEM is ALWAYS in need of volunteers to help with Meet 'n Greets and various other activities held throughout the year. If you are interested in participating, check our "Event Calendar" page for locations, dates & times.

Website:  If you would like to place a link to our site, please contact GEM's Webmaster.  GEM would also especially appreciate personal stories from greyhound adopters.  People who may be considering adoption want to hear from people who have already adopted. Those stories may actually be one of the deciding factors for a family to adopt.  Stories can be sent to GEM's Webmaster for submission to the website.
