Hilde's worst fears were realized this morning when we looked at the x-ray on the wall and saw not only the complete fracture and small piece out of place on her leg, but to see the bone itself honeycombed and brittle. There was basically nothing left of Star's leg and the decision was made to let her run her next race free of the insidious disease known as osteoscarcoma. Cloudy Gem taught many of us what it takes to be a gracious lady, a brood, a clown, a best friend and most of all, what wonderful companions seniors can make.

Was her life with us too short? You bet. Would it be traded for many more years with a younger dog? No way. She had a style and elegance that belied her many years. She was a matriarch wherever she went and she will be sorely missed by her brother and sister, Shiner & Brandy.

I would like to ask everyone to light a candle for Star this Saturday night. I'm quite sure she will always know where she's going, but a little extra light to guide her on her way can't hurt.

You loved her well, Hilde. And certainly no one could have loved her more.

Oh dear. Poor little Star. She was always so game. She was a lovely companion last year on Mackinaw and we were hoping to see her up there again.

Hilde,
Star is running free from pain and disease and although you will be without her physical presence, her spirit will live on in your heart and memories. She will be watching over you and the rest of her family from the bridge and our candles and white light will help light the way for her journey

A while back, a dear friend lost a beloved pet, someone sent this to her. she sent it to me..
now I will send it to you all...and especially Hilde.

I'll lend you for a little while my grandest dog He said,
for you to love while she's alive and mourn for when she's dead.

It may be one or twenty years or days or months you see
but will you til I take her back take care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you and should her stay be brief
you'll have treasured memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay since all from earth return

I was very saddened to read about Star (Cloudy Gem),
and I can't express my sorrow in words that are appropriate.
I will light and candle Saturday night and watch the skies.
I know now that there is no such thing as a falling star.
Its her, and she's racing to the Rainbow Bridge.

I know your decision wasn't an easy one, but it just shows how dedicated you were to her
and how much you love her. It takes an enormous amount of love to look past
your own desires, to do what is best and right for her.

GEMS,
I guess that says it all. You are all GEMS. Thank you for all the support, friendship and words of sympathy. I am very sorry to hear that O'Hara has this same dreaded disease. I will keep her in my prayers. I wanted to send out a special thank you to Merrie, Inger, Kathy & Elizabeth (Gina, Boo and Satin too) for coming to help me & Star after her fall and help me make her as comfortable as it was possible. I would not have been able to get through the evening without you.

A very very special thank you to Merrie for helping take Star to the vet and being there to help her start her next adventure... She is now free of pain and disease and I know she'll be guided by all our greyts that have already made this journey. They will help her find her way to the other side of the Bridge along with the light you'll be sending her. Thank you everyone.

In honor of Star's memory, I would like to ask all of you to participate in one of her favorite activities. This weekend take a greyt to one of our M& G's. Star loved to go to the M&G's especially if they were at Petco where she could go visit all her little friends.

Star is a sweet and laid back girl looking for a home to share retirement with her. She just retired from her job as a mom so she can concentrate on relaxing, getting petted, hugged and loved. This beautiful little girl has found that home is where the heart is, and her heart belongs to the Roerade family, who started out as her foster parents and decided that this little gal was just too special to let go. Congratulations Star, you're a keeper!
