Greyhounds listed on our website as cat safe have been exposed to our "test cat" Betty with favorable results. Most that are listed as cat safe are living with cat(s) successfully in their foster homes and it is anticipated that they will be fine with cats in an adoptive home. This does NOT guarantee that a greyhound listed as "cat safe" will be able to live with EVERY cat, the personality of the greyhound, and the cat come into play when deciding if the greyhound selected is the right one for your home.
In order to provide the best opportunity for a successful placement, GEM uses a 2 step adoption process when placing greyhounds into adoptive homes with cats.
First, the Adopter (after having a home visit and being approved to adopt) will be encouraged to visit the available greyhounds in their foster homes. This gives the adoptive family an opportunity to meet the greyhound in an environment it is used to and spend time getting to know his/her personality, while also gaining access to the foster family's knowledge of the his/her personality.
Once a greyhound is selected, he/she will be brought to adoptive home and introduced to the resident cat(s) by an experienced person. For more information about this process please feel free to contact Helen at: CadillacWild@aol.com for assistance.
